Hello everyone!
On December fourteenth, we had an interview time for our poster presentation. What I asked to my pertner is, "If you could genetically engineer your child, would you do so? Why or why not? " This is question is so hard to respond.
My partner was Shuntaro. And he said, NO. The reason is that it is against nature. And it seemed to me that he was really against genetic engineering itself.
However, I cannot endure not to say my own opinion. I'm sure that many people say that it is against law of nature. But, if it is against human history, can you say that donating blood is not against moral? If you say that something that against our nature is not good, when you get injured, can you say that it is against nature and decline new blood?
I think if I were to be said by a doctor, "your baby have serious disease.", I will ask that doctor to operate my baby to live longer! I do not want to watch my baby's suffuring.
I think that this question is so HARD. My opinion is based on my history. If I were to get child in the future, my opinion might change.

Hi, Hideki.
Yes, the idea because genetic engineerings against nature, genetical engineering is wrong does not seem to be enough. Because as you said, there are people who are suffering from serious unbearable diseases and needs biotechnology to live. I cannot say that genetical engineering or biotechnology as whole is wrong in front of those people. I have said that i would not have my children to engineer genetically; however, I cannot disagree about genetical engineering generally.
hmm... difficult to think about discuss about it really.
Miku,
Hey Hideki!
I think you have a very interesting point there. I also agree Shuntaro's opinion that genetic engineering is unnatural. Though if an extreme situation come may be I will change my opinion. Also it is hard to dicide whether we can use genetic engineering to any person. I think we should only use to people who are in extreme situations. Even though, it will be a problem that who will dicide if the situation seems extreme or not.
Maybe we need to sacrific something to choose the best way...
Hey Mick,
Thank you for writing comment! And I'm really sorry, there were many grammatical mistakes in my writing. You may had hard to time to guess what I tried to say.
Yes, it is very difficult to think. Me too, I cannot say to the patient, "You can get better with genetical operation. However, it is against human nature. So you should alive by yourselves."
Through discussion, I would love to think about it seriously!
Heeey Yuta!
Thanks for comment! But, you know, I made tons of grammatical mistakes. I'm really sorry!!!
I agree with you. Yeah, but we should make criteria to distinguish extreme or not. But, as you mentioned, who can decide that standard!? Of course there will be exception! One person is diagnosed as not extreme, however can you say that that patient do not feel extreme suffering??
Again, it is really really hard to think. Maybe, human being will not able to achieve to conclusion...
